These motors provide reliable power and are commonly found in chain and belt drive systems. While typically a little more inexpensive, these motors tend me be a little louder with a little rougher operation.

DC Motors: Newer openers increasingly use DC motors, which offer smoother and quieter operation, soft start and stop features, and improved energy efficiency. DC motors often will offer battery back-up options (which are required in some areas).
